About TherapistHi, I'm Amber!
Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s degree in Couples, Marriage, and Family Counseling from the College of William & Mary. I currently have about nine years of experience in the mental health field, including roles in intensive in-home counseling, crisis counseling, multisystemic therapy, middle school counseling, and outpatient therapy.
I specialize in helping couples and families repair and strengthen their communication and connection. I also provide individual counseling to adolescents, college students, young adults, and adults. I have experience supporting clients through a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, emotion regulation, behavioral challenges, low self-esteem, perfectionism, people-pleasing, family conflict, attachment issues, divorce, co-parenting, relationship issues, grief, life transitions, chronic stress, burnout, and more.
I believe that no matter the size of a person’s struggles, they are valid and worth addressing. I understand that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable and daunting. My goal is to create a trusting therapeutic relationship and provide a space where my clients feel safe, respected, and accepted.
In our work together, we will identify what matters most to you and the goals you would like to work toward. My approach is nonjudgmental, strengths-based, and solution-focused. I collaborate closely with my clients to build on their existing strengths while also exploring areas where change and growth can happen. My role is to support, guide, and empower you as you work toward greater balance, stronger relationships, and a deeper sense of fulfillment in your life.
My Treatment Approach:
In general, my approach is nonjudgmental, strengths-based, and solution-focused. I tend to focus on the present and future; however, I will also help clients work through their past when it is impacting the present (in other words, I won’t make you talk about your family and all your childhood stuff just for the sake of it, but we will address it if it is continuing to cause you trouble in the present). I use an “integrative approach” which means that I incorporate techniques from various treatment models to best tailor services to my clients based on their individual needs.
For those interested in the therapy jargon, the treatment models that I tend to draw from are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Strengths-Based Therapy (SBT), Structural Family Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT).

Who I Work With
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if it’s your first time. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, respected, and able to be yourself without fear of judgment.
Our first sessions will focus on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and identifying the goals you would like to work toward. Everyone’s experience is different, so therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I tailor my approach to each person, couple, or family I work with.
My approach is nonjudgmental, strengths-based, and solution-focused. This means we will spend time understanding the challenges you’re facing while also identifying the strengths and resources you already have. From there, we can work together to develop new insights, coping strategies, and ways of approaching situations that may feel overwhelming or stuck.
For couples and families, our work often focuses on improving communication, understanding patterns that may be contributing to conflict, and learning healthier ways to respond to each other. For individuals, therapy may focus on managing anxiety or stress, processing past experiences, improving emotional regulation, or building self-confidence and self-understanding.
Therapy is a collaborative process. My role is to support, guide, and empower you as you work toward meaningful change, stronger relationships, and a greater sense of balance and fulfillment in your life.
